Family

To my family, and all families: There is nothing quite like a family. It's such a collection of differences and similarities, opposites and identicals. No two are exactly alike, and no one is perfect. Some are firmly founded; others teeter on the brink of destruction, or worse, are tipping over. But for all of their shortcomings, families are still one of the most important things in the universe.

This poem was written to celebrate families, and the love that makes them. It also celebrates their errors and problems, for those things are just as important, if not more so, to the shaping and strengthening of a family's foundation. It is not just a celebration of my family; it is a tribute to every family on earth, from the richest to the poorest, from the strongest to the weakest. For we have nothing without faith, love, and family.

Family
What is a family?

Laughter, tears
Courage, fears
Love, disgust
Fair, unjust

Joyful, sorrow
Past, tomorrow
Comfort, pain
Sunshine, rain

Living, dying
Truthful, lying
But everlasting
Through time passing
